Alejandro was born in 1980, and he is the great-grandson of Hermógenes López, who was the acting president of Venezuela in the 19th century. Alejandro Betancourt Lopez began his business career in a company, which specializes in the energy sector’s work of exploring, producing, and trading in oil and its derivatives. While in the oil industry, Alejandro served as the Latin America business manager. After leaving the petroleum industry, Alejandro worked at the Guruceaga Group. The group specialized in the international trade of real estate, goods, and financial services. Alejandro has also worked as a Hawkers in Venezuela’s BGB Energy.
He is also a co-founder of DCA alongside Pedro Trebbau López. This Venezuelan company serves the energy sector, and since its establishment, the company has won many contracts in the energy sector. Since its initiation in 2003, the company has acquired many power station construction contracts, which include contracts given by Corporación Venezolana de Guayana (CVG), Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA negotiated with Bariven, a PDVSA division), and Electricidad de Caracas.
