Paula Wallace was a talented pianist as a preteen. As an adult, she worked as a public-school teacher after getting a BA at Furman University and then attending Georgia State University to get her master’s and a degree in education. Wallace loved arts education since her piano teacher let her help younger kids learn to play the instrument.

A Visionary Leader With Boundless Energy

For Paula Wallace SCAD provides an opportunity to create innovative programs that help budding artists and designers develop and share their talents. For students, a SCAD education includes participating in annual arts and film festivals.

Students and staff also work with the community to rescue, renovate and revitalize derelict buildings in neighborhoods near SCAD campuses. Paula Wallace also designed a program called SCADpro

Much Deserved Recognition

Through the leadership of Paula Wallace SCAD art and design programs have garnered many awards. Her induction into the Hall of Fame of Interior Design in 2019 with a special leadership award was much deserved recognition.

Using her own funds, vision and endless energy, Paula Wallace turned an old armory in Savannah, Georgia into the foundation of one of the best art and design schools in the United States. Today, 15,000 students benefit from SCAD programs in campuses in Savannah, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, Lacoste, France and Hong Kong. Paula Wallace’s work at SCAD epitomizes special leadership.
