In our current world of unrest and volatility, we look to leaders for guidance. Never has it been more necessary to shine a light on the champions that are igniting the future. One such person, UK entrepreneur, philanthropist and artist, James JP Drake highlights his achievements as attained by his principle of empathy, rather than by mercenary tactics. Stating “it is not enough to simply choose the right path, it is important to empathize with key people along the way”, Drake refers to these as Gatekeepers – strangers that have opened doors he otherwise would not have, shaping the person he is today.
His mission to integrate commercial success with philanthropical initiatives in science and arts can be demonstrated in his founding of The Drake Foundation. Regarding it as his greatest achievement, the nonprofit is committed to improving evidence-based measures for understanding concussion injuries in sports. He currently serves as Chairman. As the founder and Chairman of the London-based Future Science Group, a progressive publisher of breakthrough science and research, publications like Nanomedicine Journal (receiving an accolade of Highly Commended for the 2007 ALSPS Awards) and Regenerative Medicine (recipient of the 2006 ALSPS Charlesworth Award for Best New Journal) serve the advancement of clinical practice and drug research.
A self-described amateur painter, Drake’s respect for the arts can be communicated through the Drake Calleja Trust, where he serves as Chairman. The trust provides musical scholarships and/or grants to the socially and economically disadvantaged. As Chairman of Lost Time, the organization works alongside museums, auction houses, libraries and estates to recover the life and times of obscured artists, writers and scientists.
Believing empathy is present in every individual and should be used to one’s advantage, it is the mighty framework of all of James JP Drake’s pursuits.
