Industry analysts are not surprised that providers of connected remote learning platforms are experiencing an explosion in requests for service in the era of COVID-19. Not every service has been able to parlor all that incoming traffic into profit, however.
One exception is San Francisco-based ClassDojo. The ed-tech firm saw its customer number jump 10 to 15 times past the level they were at pre-pandemic. Furthermore, they were well-positioned to take on new business without needing a ton of cash flow for things like hiring new employees and ramping up their infrastructure.
ClassDojo gives away its service for free. There’s an option to buy in at a $7.99 per month level that families can sign up for if they want access to enhanced services.
Sam Chaudhary is the founder of ClassDojo. He said he and his staff are handling more work than they ever thought possible. He calls his operation “a small team,” but he is delighted at what they have been able to accomplish in an extraordinary situation.
ClassDojo offers pre-K through grade 12 education. Chaudhary called it an “amazingly fruitful space” but one that requires navigating just the right strategy to translate all that work into bona fide profits.
