Eric Lefkofsky might be at the top of his field now but it was not easy to get there. He was born September 2, 1969, to a Jewish family in Detroit and proved to be business savvy from a young age. After finishing at the top of his high school class, he went on to college at the University of Michigan. He graduated with honors as part of the class of 91 and then went on to law school where he earned his JD two years later. After he was done with his academic career, he went on to work for inner workings for three years. He left the role in May of 2004 so he could go on to found echo global logistics. He did well in this role but still knew that there was something missing from his life.
So Eric Lefkofsky then departed this role so he could be the founder & CEO of Tempus. He started out with just 700 employees but has since expanded the company to include more than 1000. He had a big fundraiser recently where they raised more than $100 million and this now brings their total worth up to more than $5 billion. Originally, they were founded just to try and find a cure for cancer but they have since expanded their efforts to include research into a new cure for both depression and diabetes. They have now raised more than $620 million in total and he hopes to keep doing well.
