Daniel Madariaga Barrilado is a businessman in Mexico. He’s a self-employed consultant that focuses on sustainability. This includes green buildings, reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. He helps design and implement government environmental policies. He’s widely known as a mobility expert and a thought leader of the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) movement.

He’s trying to evolve Mexico City into a smart city. Daniel Madariaga Barrilado says smart cities have better urban services than traditional cities. Smart cities bring down the cost and consumption of transportation, energy and other utilities. They preserve resources for future generations.

Daniel Madariaga Barrilado said much of global warming is a result of inefficient transportation. He wants to provide residents of Mexico City with greener alternatives when they need to get somewhere. MaaS includes private passenger cars, semi-trucks, public buses, boats and airplanes. There are better, greener ways to move people, products and materials around than traditional means.

He’s been self-employed as a consultant and data scientist since 2000. Daniel Madariaga Barrilado graduated from business school in 2000 and then went into business for himself. He decided to dedicate his career to doing good in the world, and so focused his career on helping Mexico City become more sustainable.
