OSI Group is a privately owned American holding company that excels in food processing. The company’s expertise is in custom food development, providing its customers with food products to meet their specific needs. The company is also adept in the management of the food supply chain.
This food giant is vigilant when it comes to issues concerning health, safety, and environmental protection. It takes various measures to counter risks that may arise in those areas. It is due to the company’s vigilance that the British Safety Council (BSC) awarded OSI UK with the prestigious “double” award in 2018, the Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour. OSI UK was one of only sixteen companies to earn the double award status that year. The Sword of Honour award recognizes commitment to excellent health and safety management standards, and the Globe of Honour recognizes commitment to excellent environmental management standards. This double award speaks volumes since, in order to compete for each one, a company has to achieve five stars in the British Safety Council’s occupational health and safety audit and the same five stars in its environmental management audit. Both audits are very challenging.
In 2018, the OSI facility in Ostróda, Poland was awarded for being eco-responsible in business as well. The year 2018 also brought a safety award to a US facility, as OSI Oakland received recognition from the Nebraska Safety Council for being one of Nebraska’s safest companies. This was the 22nd year the plant won that award. Both the OSI Oakland and OSI Chicago plants won worker safety awards from the North American Meat Institute that year, too.
OSI Group has 65 facilities in a total of 17 countries, with 20,000 employees. These numbers show that the company provides employment on a global scale. The company, being privately owned, operates like a small company and can boast of careers in operations, shipping, accounting, and quality assurance, to mention just a few.
In its efforts to expand its market, in 2016, the company purchased Baho Food, a Dutch company dealing in convenience foods, deli meats, and snacks. This ensured a greater presence in the European market and broadened OSI’s capabilities to serve the evolving needs of its customers.
The company’s additional 2016 acquisition of Flagship Europe, since renamed Creative Foods Europe, also gave it a broader market in that area of the world. This purchase has generated great benefits in terms of resources and market for the company.
Additionally, OSI purchased a former Tyson Foods facility in Chicago, in 2016. The plant is closely located to OSI’s other Chicago-based facilities and therefore provides great infrastructure for growth and development, for new customers as well as for widening its product portfolio.
OSI’s commitment to making its customers a priority and meeting the challenges that come with this make it a great force around the world. Winning the Globe of Honour in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018 has demonstrated its UK facility’s commitment to environmental issues, which is reflected in the operations of all its facilities around the world as well. The UK plant’s achievements in both environmental achievements and worker health and safety can also be traced to awards as far back as 2006. This offers a great deal of comfort and assurance to the customers when consuming their products.
The continued effort in expansion through the several purchases has broadened OSI’s market and allows the company to keep up with continuously changing customer needs and preferences. This makes OSI Group one of the best companies in America and the world over.
