For years, JD.com has continued to provide its services to China and Asia at large. The company was founded in 1988 by Richard Liu Quiangdong, then a small-time employee who was just trying to get into the retail businesses. Richard founded Jingdong intending to distribute magneto-optical products in the Beijing Industrial Park. Jingdong expanded from one product into a variety of many things, ranging from electronics to clothes, hardware and beauty products.
After its foundation, the company grew immensely, with its reception granting the company the capability to expand its stores to many areas of China. The first time the company got a real huddle was when they lost their workforce due to the 2003 SARS virus.
This threw the company back to the drawing board, making them plan on reducing their physical presence and making it stronger online. The company took on this approach and slowly shut down their physical stores, a process they fully completed in 2005. Their online store rebranded to JD.com and focussed on being the best online retailer possible.
Today, they have achieved that and so much more. JD.com is the biggest online retailer in China and the second in the world after Amazon in terms of the revenue it is bringing in. The company went public in 2014, a period that marked prosperity as their share price rose by 15%.
JD.com prides itself in supporting the chinese people by employing their various departments. Their jobs have provided careers and livelihoods to thousands of direct clients and thousands of businesses that depend on them for supplies. Apart from being a business stronghold, JD.com is a huge supporter of the people of China and the world.
During these trying coronavirus times, the company has rolled out strategies to help people and the government fight the pandemic. Their subsidiary company JD Logistics has played a huge role in the delivery of useful equipment, pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies to people and medical facilities to help in the fight against coronavirus. They have also made major contributions in the fight by donating millions of masks to cities around China that have been badly affected by the pandemic.
