Derek F. Johnson is an American attorney who has been a partner at the law firm of Dean Omar Branham Shirley since 2013. Johnson was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in South Fulton, Georgia. He received his B.A. degree in Political Science from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in 1996 and his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1999.
Johnson began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge William C. O’Kelley in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He then worked as an associate at the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP in Atlanta, GA from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, Johnson joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia as an Assistant United States Attorney. He served in that role until 2013 when he left to join Dean Omar Branham Shirley.
