It is no secret that social media has taken over the world. Billions of people around the globe are on their phones, tablets, and computers every day scrolling through Facebook posts, Twitter tweets, and Instagram photos. But what many don’t realize is how much it affects our lives offline as well.

In a recent interview, Ryan Kavanaugh, the founder and CEO of Relativity Media spoke about how social media has had a negative impact on both his personal and professional life.

He said that it created a world where people are looking to be famous for no reason. He explained that it’s just so much easier now with social media to put yourself out there. Everybody is seeing the best of people, but nobody is seeing what’s behind closed doors.

Ryan Kavanaugh was sure to point out that social media has not only had a negative impact on personal relationships; it’s also negatively affected the entertainment industry.

He recalled saying that it used to be that there were three TV networks, and you knew whatever people would put on would hit and be enjoyed by everyone. Nowadays, people don’t even know if their favorite show is coming back because the viewership is so fragmented.

While it’s easy to sit here and say that social media is bad, the truth is that it’s not going anywhere. So what can people do to make sure they are using it in a way that’s positive for both themselves and their loved ones?

Ryan Kavanaugh advises that people should be more aware of how they use social media and be more mindful of the people they’re following and the content they’re consuming.

He urges everyone to take a step back and be more conscious of how they are using social media and make sure they are using it in a way that makes them happy and healthy.
